Curriculum Overview

This half term...
Welcome to Autumn Term!
Our first topic is Ocean Adventures where our learning is based on The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. In English, we will be focusing on SPAG elements such as verbs, adverbs, nouns, adjectives, conjunctions and much much more. These will help us in our two main pieces of writing which will be a retell of a story and a non-chronological report. In Georgraphy, we will recap our knowledge of the world's continents and oceans and then link to our Science learning where we will discover animals and plants living in hot and cold climates and how they are adapted to suit their habitat. In Art, we will be creating an underwater scene using a range of primary and secondary colours and using black and white paint to make tints and shades. As well as this, we will be discovering how to use a variety of materials to make seaweed to add to our final piece. In DT, we will be making an underwater scene diorama where we will use string and other materials to make some elements of our design move. In Computing, we will be learning how to code to make objects move, turn, appear and disappear. By the end of the topic, we will also be able to make events happen when two objects collide.

After our first topic, we will be focusing on Time Travellers where we will compare Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. More information on this will follow after our first half-term in Year 2.
